On September 4, the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM) at SWUFE hosted a welcome orientation for its new international students. The event was attended by institute leaders, faculty members, international student advisors, and all the new students, marking the beginning of their academic journey.
This year's cohort includes 208 new students: 21 PhD students, 1 advanced visiting scholar, 50 master’s students, 111 undergraduates, 9 dual-degree students, and 16 international exchange students. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences are expected to enrich the academic and cultural environment at RIEM.
Dean Dong Yan welcomed the new students and provided an overview of RIEM, SWUFE, and the city of Chengdu. She highlighted the institute's commitment to internationalization, offering cross-border study and exchange platforms, and providing top-tier teaching resources and growth opportunities. Dean Dong also introduced Vice Dean Huang Lin, who oversees teaching, along with the department heads—Wu Ji, Liu Xiaoyan, and Xiao Wei—and the international student advisor team. Vice Dean Huang and the department heads will provide guidance in learning and academic planning, while the advisors will offer support for daily management, academic guidance, and assistance with everyday life..
After that, Cheng Juan, one of the international student advisors, detailed the custom-tailored training program for the new students. Grade-level advisors also covered campus rules and other essential requirements, providing practical advice based on the experiences of international students in China. They emphasized the importance of adhering to school and local regulations, adapting quickly to campus life, and actively participating in the institute community. The advisors encouraged cross-cultural exchange and mutual learning.
This orientation effectively bridged the gap between the institute and the new international students, setting a strong foundation for their academic journey. Moving forward, RIEM is committed to nurturing top international talent, enhancing the training and support system, and building a high-quality platform for international education. These efforts aim to foster cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and other countries.
